On-arrival training

The life of the European volunteers also includes moments of training, to prepare them to the experience of living outside their own countries and their own "comfort zone". Usually there is a training meeting before the departure, in each own country, held by the supporting organization; one shortly after the volunteer's arrival in the host country; and another one at the midterm of the project.
So, after a couple of weeks after our arrival, the other volunteers who had just started their project in the regions of Catalonia and Balearic Islands, and I, met in the town of Andratx, on the island of Mallorca, for our On-arrival Training.
We spent a week living together, exchanging informations about our respective projects and our own countries and participating in activities that helped us to better understand how the European Solidarity Corps work and are structured. We got to know each other and learnt more about our host country, Spain, too. We have also been received by the Mayor and the Municipality of Andratx and we have met the people who work in the National Agency that manages all the administrative aspects of the projects of European Solidarity Corps on Spanish territory. Some of us have also been interviewed in a news program of the Balearic Islands tv local channel.

To be honest, it's quite easy to end up in a news program or in a newspaper article as an European volunteer. Every year the Balearic Islands receive many volunteers, and the host associations have the pleasure and the duty to introduce them to the local communities.
